RE: Battery Charging, not seen asked before

what is the reserve minute value based on ? a 25 a/h discharge?
You need to check out Peukert's law, which explains the discharge rates very thoroughly. here's a good link: peukert's law

RE: GFCI Breaker tripping/Open ground somewhere?

I have the outlet type. Friend says it's tripping because I'm drawing more than 15amp. My other trailer was fine when plugging in but this used 1999 fifth wheel is tripping the outlet breaker.
You turned off all the breakers in your camper, and only turning on the converter breaker caused the GFCI to trip. Further, you said that plugging it into a non-GFI circuit worked fine.
The problem is not that your drawing too much current. the problem is either a bad GFCI or the converter. Both of my trailers tripped my GFCI, plus three other converters that I was repairing. As mentioned before, the units I was repairing only tripped the GFCI when a load was applied, but the load was only a couple of amps, not greater than 15. My point is that a lot of converters seem to have compatibility problems with some GFCI's. I wouldn't worry about it, the campground breaker won't be GFCI protected anyway.

I got my 18K hitch via UPS today as promised by my dealer. I feel much better towing my fiver now. Thanks to Ron the owner for helping me get this fixed.
How'd you come out on the awning?

RE: Electrical question

Are you saying buy one on these power supplys just to run my stereo. And use my present converter to run everything else. Seems excessive to me. If thats the case I will just buy an electric stereo and run it off the 120 volt system. i did a search and there are a couple converters out there that will work with or without a battery. Going to my local rv dealer today to talk to them see if they can tell me whats wrong. I belong to pop up explorer forum and a lot of these people are putting car stereos in there campers and are running them off the converter. So I need to find out if it really is not having a battery with the converter I have.
What else are you trying to run? Since the camper had neither a converter or a battery to begin with, I assumed that the stereo was the only thing you're trying to run. If you connect a battery and a converter, then you'll be running your camper just like everyone else does, and that will work just fine.

RE: Camper breaks work some times

The P3 has a troubleshooting mode that will indicate shorts, opens, open ground, as well as voltages and currents. Using the troubleshooting mode as explained in the manual will find your problem for you.

RE: Skylight Replacement: Update - FIXED!

I found the outer part at a local dealer. They only had one and it was just over $50.
After removing the caulking / sealant I could see why it was cracked. Most of the screws were over tightened - some were practically right through the plastic skylight. The RV manufacturer should have at least used washers.
The new replacement skylight was similar to the old one.
I cut some aluminum to use as a big "washer" to evenly distribute the load when screwing the skylight to the roof. The roof is curved and the aluminum bends uniformly to match the curve.
The installation was not difficult. I removed the old skylight, cleaned up the old sealant and marked and drilled the holes for the new skylight. Then I formed a gasket with butyl rubber tape, set the new skylight on top of it, placed my aluminum strips on the skylight and screwed it to the roof. Then I covered the screw heads and the aluminum and around the perimeter of the skylight with Dicor self-leveling sealant. I used Dicor to fill the valley between my aluminum strips and the dome so that water doesn't collect there.
The domed interior part from my old skylight fit the new installation perfectly so at least I didn't have to purchase that piece as well.
Very nice work!

RE: Electrical question

Is there any converter out there that I don't need a battery with.
You don't want a converter, you want a power supply. Something like this: 12 volt Power supply on ebay
It should be filtered and regulated. If you have a CB or HAM radio store near you, they will carry what you want. A dedicated Stereo shop should have them as well.

RE: Electrical Question

the red wire from your stereo is switched power, and the yellow wire is constant power for the memory. If you don't have a battery, don't hook up the yellow wire, because you can't have a memory without a battery.

RE: Plumbing gray water to the black tank

I installed an extra valve at the end of my 3"pipe. I keep the last valve closed and open the gray and black valves. The tanks will balance themselfs and when it is time to dump I just hook up the hose and pull the third valve open.
I LIKE IT! that adds capacity to either tank, with no need for a pump.

Ethanol is required in ks and mo. It doesn't cause a problem in my car, but causes vapor lock in my boat.

RE: Digital thermostat, must be able to control A/C heat strip

I have gone over most of the posts about the conversion to digital a thermostat and would like to try it. I can understand the need for possibly a second switch on some of the units to control the low/hi speed fan but how would I add the control of a heat strip installed within the A/C unit?
We prefer the heatstrip to using the conventional heater, for what ever reason the air flow movement is better and of course we save on propane.
Thanks
Ron W.
here's a link to a setup that would likely do the job for you. two stage digital stat.

RE: plug in volt meter

... But is a lower voltage reading telling me I'm using too much power or that the shore power to my rig too low?
The meter does not read power, only voltage. if the voltage gets too low, it could be because something on the same circuit as the outlet your plugged into is drawing a lot of current, causing a voltage drop, or, more likely, the campground voltage is low. Best way to tell is to measure the voltage directly at the pedestal.
